Reading one of her limited edition printed publication feels like catching up with an old friend. Her approach sits in between the whimsical and positively fluid, reminding me of the essence of Henry Matisse's cutouts. - Kelley Mullarkey, 2015
________
Johanna Tagada is since 2012 self publishing delicate and unique signed artist publications / zines. For these projects she has received the support of historical paper makers including Lana Papier Beaux Arts (FR) and G.F Smith (UK). In 2015 she founded POETIC PASTEL PRESS as an answer to her hand-bound publication projects, now also publishing the work of her peers.

Further more than being signed and hand-numbered, most booklets published between 2012 and 2016 also include painted pages. Each copy is entirely assembled by hand from the folding to the packing. Tagada's publications often described as poetic and beautiful have drawn a wide fan base as well as gained worldwide recognition being sold in Institutions such as The Tate Modern (London), The Photographer Gallery (London), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Buchhandlung Walther König (Berlin), Utrecht Art Book Shop (Tokyo) etc. The publications are also frequently selected to participate in prestigious Art Book Fairs such as Offprint and Tokyo Art Book Fair.

Rose et Jaune introduces two of commonly rooted bodies of work; photographs and paintings carrying a narrative. After their wedding, the artist and her husband went on for a small journey in Wales. An afternoon spent on a sandy beach, flowers, the romantic feeling of a young bride, the discovering of an island as an imaginary settler, are the trigger to both the paintings and dreamy analog imageries. The publication is sensitive and delicate, including a hand painted page. The colours are soft, yellow, pink and tender pastels which are known to play an important role in Johanna's practice. With an introduction by Celina Basra and a written contribution by Audrey Fondecave. First released by Tender Books at Offprint Paris 2015 this publication is one of a kind. More information:
